The “Planting for Pollinators” package is a collection of native species that provide a food source for native insects and bring unique beauty to your yard. Each package contains
3 Canada Buffaloberry
3 Pin Cherry
3 Red Elderberry
3 Pussy Willow
3 Wolf Willow
Seeds from a variety of native wild flowers
Did you know: Alberta is home to over 200 native bees! Native bees are heroes of the plant world - studies indicate they do 4 times more pollinating compared to the domestic European honeybee! Recently, there’s been increasing discussion around the declining number of pollinators and factors contributing to that loss. Pollinators support critical ecological services and their decline shows us how much the agriculture & food industry relies on these insects.

American Elms are susceptible to Dutch Elm Disease. For rural areas, the risk is low compared to urban areas, but not entirely non-existent. For the health of mature trees and to protect newly planted seedlings, the best ways to prevent Dutch Elm Disease are to never move elm firewood onto the property and abide by provincial pruning bans (no pruning from April 1 - Sept 30). This avoids transporting active beetles that spread Dutch Elm Disease.

Bundle of 5 biodegradable hemp squares for use as mulch around tree seedlings.
Shelterbelt seedlings start out small - if competing vegetation is not controlled when tree seedlings are planted, grass & weeds outcompete the seedlings for sunlight and moisture, leading to tree death or poor growth
The #1 reason tree establishment fails is lack of vegetation control around the seedlings - mulch around your tree seedlings is critical for their success!
Hemp squares are biodegradable - from our trials we expect them to provide mulching cover for 2-3 growing seasons
These hemp squares are produced in Alberta, with hemp sourced from western Canadian agricultural producers.
Hemp squares are 12” x 12”
